MUTANT LINE   138TNR Contact TMGC for ordering information
Synopsis:

Females of 138TNR consume high amounts of ethanol in part due to high consumption of liquid.

Detailed Phenotype Description:

This recessive mutation (tmgc50), linked to Chr 15, was detected in the progeny of C57BL/6JRn males given one dose of 150 mg/kg ENU. 138TNR females exhibits increased ethanol consumption in a standard two-bottle choice test in which mice are given 2 bottles, one containing a 10%(v/v) ethanol solution in water and the other containing just water. The amount of each solution that is consumed is measured and recorded each day for the 4-day trial. In particular, the grams of ethanol consumed per kilogram of mouse are high (See BOTTLE_ETHA_DAY) as is the amount of ethanol consumed in mls (see BOTTLE_ETHANOL). However, the amount of water consumed is not low (see BOTTLE_WATER) nor is the preference ratio (see BOTTLE_PREF_RAT) particularly high suggesting that these mice consume large amount liquid. Genetic control of gender-specific ethanol consumption has been shown in several studies through the use of QTL analyses.
