This autosomal recessive mutation (tmgc55), linked to Chr. 19, was detected in the progeny of C57BL/6-19PWK males given one dose of 150 mg/kg ENU. This pedigree avoids drinking ethanol in the 2-bottle choice test. The Ch19 mice are on a C57BL6 background, and thus consume high amounts of ethanol. Further ethanol consumption is a gender specific trait so the sexes are often not affected equally. In this instance, both sexes of 221CH19 mice avoid ethanol, although the females more consistently show this behavior. The best measure to see this is in the grams of ethanol consumed/ kilogram of mouse/ day (g/kg/day) [BOTLE_ETHA_DAY]. This measure takes into account the size of the mouse. In this measure, the female Ch19 mice consumed 20.39 +/- 1.922 g while the 221Ch19 female mice consumed 14.19 +/- 2.79 g. Thus, these mice are over 3 SD from the mean. The low consumption is also observed in the absolute amount of ethanol that is consumed (BOTTLE_ETHANOL). For males, these 2 measure also differ from controls by over 2SD along with the additional measure of the preference ratio, which measures the preference for ethanol over liquid as a whole. Again, however, the males are more variable on these measures.
